I really appreciated the fact that there was a significant plot, though. Granted, he provides a plausible reason for this, but I (personally) would have loved more! Also, I thought the introduction to Benny’s life and the entire plot was a bit long and drawn out, but it was manageable. My biggest complaint about this book was that I wanted MORE zombie bashing! For a story set in a zombie wasteland, Maberry makes these beings a small part of the novel. I expected a story filled with zombie bashing, horror scenes, and general guts and stuff. He described it as the epitome of “boy books” and as a series they can read enjoyably all year. Review: I was pumped to read this book after hearing about it from an inservice teacher at a conference. It’s now up to the Imura brothers and the mysterious Lost Girl to rescue Nix before it’s too late. Shortly after, a group of cruel and unforgiving bounty hunters kidnap Tom and Benny’s friend, Nix, and take her out in the Ruin – a zombie wasteland. But Benny quickly realizes this may be his only viable option, so Tom takes him under his wing. All he knows is that he does not want to go into his “family business” and become a bounty hunter, like his older brother, Tom. Summary: Benny Imura is struggling with the decision of what career path he should follow.
